Feasibility Testing a Meditation App for Professionals Working With Youth in the Legal System: Protocol for a Hybrid Type 2 Effectiveness-Implementation Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Emotion dysregulation (eg, difficulty up-regulating positive emotions or down-regulating negative emotions) appears to be a common mechanism underlying depression, anxiety, and burnout, and it can be improved through mindfulness meditation [6-9]. Moreover, many professionals who work with young people in the legal system express interest in meditation practice [10]. Yet research in this area is sparse, and the scalability of existing efforts has been limited.

However, the evidence base for cg NF is scarce [52], especially in the realm of meditation, where the enthusiasm for these devices may outpace the evidence [53]. For example, the Muse headband, which markets itself as “your personal meditation coach,” offers to elevate mental performance, improve sleep, improve focus, and more (Intera Xon). As yet, there is no systematic evidence that devices like Muse can effectively promote these psychological and physiological benefits.

Another on-demand button addressed 13 frequently asked questions about mindfulness (eg, Is mindfulness the same thing as meditation?). Brief individually-delivered counseling was consistent with the Treating Tobacco Dependence Guidelines (eg, removing smoking paraphernalia, and social support) [79] and lasted about 20-30 minutes at each visit. Visit 1 provided participants with the National Cancer Institute’s Clearing the Air booklet and a single-page handout on mindfulness.

Effect of a Web-Based Heartfulness Program on the Mental Well-Being, Biomarkers, and Gene Expression Profile of Health Care Students: Randomized Controlled Trial

Well-being practices such as meditation are a potential tool and have been studied in health care settings [10-12]. Heartfulness meditation is a simple heart-based meditation system with gentle support from the trainers termed “yogic Transmission” aimed at attaining a balanced state of existence. The practices have been shown to reduce burnout, loneliness, and stress, and improve sleep [12-16].

Impact of Dance or Music and Meditation on the Progression of Parkinson Disease With Mild or Moderate Severity: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Impact of Dance or Music and Meditation on the Progression of Parkinson Disease With Mild or Moderate Severity: Protocol for a Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial

Meditation is a mental state of quiescence that affects the body's functioning and helps patients gain attentional control and maintain focus on their intentions rather than being controlled by external environmental factors [25,26]. Mindfulness meditation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system of the body through deep breathing exercises and positively impacts concentration and emotion regulation [27].

Participants assigned to the SCM and MM groups will use a smartphone app to engage in guided meditation on their own once a day (Multimedia Appendix 1). The duration of all intervention conditions is 4 weeks. Both SCM and MM interventions contain elements of mindfulness.
