To promote PESI use in our hospital and facilitate more consistent implementation across other health systems, we created a new CDS within our 2023 Epic-based EHR featuring an electronic PESI calculator, or “e PESI” that automatically calculates a patient’s PESI score when a computerized tomography-pulmonary embolism (CT-PE) is ordered.

The research team previously developed a mobile app aimed at assisting physicians in prescribing head computed tomography (CT) scans based on appropriateness guidelines, the Head CT Scan Appropriateness Criteria (HAC) mobile app [1]. However, during that study, neurology and neurosurgery residents expressed concerns about usability issues despite their interest in using the app.

The contemporary diagnostic modalities used for the evaluation of NSD include anterior rhinoscopy, endoscopy, computed tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging [7-9]. Over the past few years, cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) has established itself as a low radiation diagnostic modality for imaging of nasal and paranasal sinus [10-12].
In conventional radiology practice, radiologists analyze images to detect and monitor disease conditions.

Opportunistic computed tomography (CT) scans can be a novel approach for identifying patients with a high risk of fractures. Along with the increase in progressively aging populations, the use of opportunistic CT scanning is increasing, with over 80 million examinations performed each year in the United States [6]. Retrieval of information that can help assess the fracture risks from opportunistic CT scans does not require additional costs, time, or equipment, and data can be retrospectively acquired.

Computed tomography (CT) images of the shoulders obtained at Ewha Womans University Seoul Hospital were used for 3 D modeling. CT images in the DICOM file format were converted to an STL file format and then imported into the Blender program (Blender Institute). The size and volume of each bone and muscle involved in shoulder movement were measured and used for image visualization and 3 D modeling.

From the Cochrane Library: Optical Coherence Tomography for Diagnosing Skin Cancer in Adults
Since the development of optical coherence tomography (OCT), technological improvements have made this diagnostic imaging tool adaptable to clinical settings [1]. OCT provides an alternative modality for assessing skin abnormalities. The standard procedure for the evaluation of suspicious skin lesions involves visual inspection, often with dermoscopy, which may be followed by a biopsy for histological confirmation of diagnosis.

Although there have been great advances in computed tomography (CT) technology, when undergoing outpatient imaging in the community, many patients continue to have imaging performed at underresourced facilities with a single, often low-slice CT machine.

Computed tomography (CT) use has grown dramatically in recent years [1,2] and, because CT typically delivers higher radiation doses than conventional x-rays, there are concerns about appropriateness of utilization and the risks of cumulative radiation exposure [1,3-5]. Prior work by our group showed many patients underwent the same CT exam at more than one site within a health information exchange (HIE); some were likely duplicate studies and possibly avoidable [6].
