A heuristic evaluation serves to systematically review the current state of a product, identifying usability and experience issues [36,37]. This evaluation is conducted based on Jakob Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics, which are high-level guidelines grounded in an understanding of human behavior, psychology, and information processing.

For instance, a heuristic prompt might use the rule that an abbreviation is typically capitalized, followed by a period, and preceded by an article or a noun. This approach contrasts with chain of thought prompts, which focus on elucidating the reasoning or logic behind an output. Instead, heuristic prompts leverage a series of predefined rules to direct the LLM in executing a specific task.
Mathematically, we can express a heuristic prompt as H(x), a function applied to an input sequence x.

The heuristic evaluation was conducted, assuming that Daily Healthcare 2.0 was implemented. Focusing on the app’s core functions, a link to a 3-minute and 17-second video recording app screen was distributed, and the experts evaluated the app after watching the video guide. Experts who had already been recruited and voluntarily expressed their willingness to participate were sent an email containing links to a video guide and web-based survey.

Evaluating the Usability of an Emergency Department After Visit Summary: Staged Heuristic Evaluation
Heuristic evaluations are commonly used to evaluate the usability of health technologies [1,2]. Relying on human factors or usability experts to assess a technology against usability criteria (ie, heuristics), heuristic evaluations offer an efficient and low-cost alternative to user-based evaluation methods [3]. However, the method’s reliance on human factors expertise may limit its applicability and usefulness, especially regarding the evaluation of the severity of identified usability violations.

Assessing the Usability of a Clinical Decision Support System: Heuristic Evaluation
The heuristic evaluation proposed by Nielsen is an assessment conducted by a small group of evaluators using an evidence-based set of design guidelines called heuristics [38,42]. Heuristic evaluators, who are generally experts in HCI, examine a user interface and the system design according to the evidence-based interface standards.
